Well made! Smooth ride. My daughter loves it. Two things I would change 1. Make handle height adjustable. 2. The little clip that holds it closed in the folded position is a very flimsy little flat stamped hook, seems like a nice little bent chromed wire would be stronger, better looking and less likely to fail.

It is American made! by a family owned company, from as many American sourced parts/materials as possible (some things just aren't made here anymore :^( )

I'm very happy with this scooter. The wheels are larger and the foot board has a higher ground clearance so it is safer than cheaper scooters. Your child is less likely to go flying if he or she hits a bump in the sidewalk. It has a hand break as well as a foot break, which is a nice option if a child gets flustered and has trouble working the foot break. Although my 4 foot tall 6 yo is large enough to use it, I think it will be even better in a couple years. The handle is not height adjustable but it does fold down. I'd say it is best for children between 4 and 5 feet. I'm 5' 2" and it is just a trifle too short for me (but I enjoy riding it anyway). I want the adult version!

After many hours of searching the web and stores we decided on this scooter for our Grandson's 7th birthday. It was a breeze to assemble. He loves it. It is so easy to manuver. Only thing is his three year old sister is on it as much as he is. The handlebars can be adjusted to the heighth of the rider. We have bought her the mini for Easter. We ordered both from Amazon and they were both at our door within a few days.Easter is in a few days and we can't wait to see them both riding together instead of fighting over who rides next.

i found this scooter to be alot of fun, i dont know why people are writing bad reviews about it.

the pump mechanism only goes fast if you kick it really fast, i had to also reduce the chain length to make it ALOT faster, to do this you need to look at the bottom and you will see a black spring and the chain. disconnect the spring and there should be a little grey hook holding the end of the chain.make that chainlength longer so theres more extra(reducing the chains length), now you can have someone help you for the next part or you can do this yourself (i did this myself)pull the black spring and connect it back to the black hook on the grey disk shaped thing and your ready to go.

what reducing the chain length does.
reducing the chain length makes it harder to push the kick pedal. this in turn makes for a bigger speed burst though. remember to kick off about 3 times to get a good ammount of speed and momentum and then just kick as hard and as fast as you can.

Agree with everything in the first review, but I wouldn't rate as high. I checked out the web site before buying and it seemed to make a point of how speedy it is. But it's just...not. You can push it with your leg much faster than you can "pump" it, so there isn't much point to its pump mechanism. Otherwise seems sturdy and well-made. Chain does slip sometimes with pumping, and scooter doesn't push backward.

It just came Fed-ex today. Pulled it out the box -- raised the bar and it snapped into position -- voila!! Step on and coasted across the living room. Wow! Big. Sturdy. Rolls nice. Brakes nice. I'm nearly 300lbs and feel safe, stable and supported on this lovely blue scooter. Now I can join my 7yr old with his razor A for scoots around the neighborhood! Can't wait for my wife to check it out. I think she will want one too. So far so good. If anything bad happens... or more good... I'll be back to update this for sure. But so far very pleased.

UPDATE... OK. That was fun. A bit of a workout in the 90 degree heat today. Me and the kid cruised up and down the block a few times. The deck on this thing is nice and wide, so I was able to coast with both feet next to each other and then switch feet for pushing when one got tired. Folds up much quicker and easier than the razor(I had to struggle with that) and then it's easy to carry up the stairs to our 2nd floor flat.

In many ways, the Xooter Mg is superior, except for a key feature, smoothness of ride. You have to be willing to accept a fairly rough ride, due to the harder wheels that give greater speed, in order to use the Xooter.

The Know-Ped offers a fairly smooth ride, as long as you don't go over major bumps or holes. This is a major advantage. However, it has the following issues:

1) The handle bar isn't high enough for taller people, and isn't adjustable. I'm 6'1/2", and could use a handlebar that is at least 2 inches higher, in order to be able to stand fully upright on the Know-Ped. It's probably just the right height for someone 5'7" to 5'10". A smaller person might want to try the Growped. By contrast, the Xooter has an adjustable handlebar that can cover a wide range of heights.

2) The locking mechanism for the Knowped when folded is fairly primitive, a little hook on the handlebar that hooks into the rear fender, but will easily unhook, if not held in a horizontal position. The Xooter takes a little longer to fold and lock, but it completely locks and won't unlock.

3) The Knowped is heavier than the Xooter, and you definitely feel the difference. But it is manageable to carry, at 12 pounds. It's a bit harder to manuever when walking up or down escalators and avoiding others to your side.

4) As a trade-off for the smooth ride, the Knowped doesn't glide like the Xooter. It takes more work to cover the same distance at equal speed. Again, this is manageable at distances of around a mile, and will give you a good workout. It still will cut significant time off of a walking commute.

5)The Knowped doesn't fold up quite as compactly as a Xooter. However, it still fits fairly well under a train seat, sticking out only a little bit in front, and won't roll away (as another reviewer thought it would).

6)The platform on the Know-ped is 1.25 inches higher than the Xooter platform. This results in substantially more kneeling effort for each push.

7)If you don't like the product, you won't be able to return it, unlike the 30 day satisfaction guarantee that Xooter offers.

It's too bad that one can't put the Knowped's soft wheels on a Xooter's superior frame.
It’s too bad that one can’t put the Knowped’s soft wheels on a Xooter’s superior frame.

Very well built, tough, great ride. Easy to ride even for someone who's never ridden one as a kid. Got this to give my dog a better workout during afternoon walks, and now we both get a great workout.

I'm 45, 6'5" tall. After shopping for various electric and gas scooters, decided to get this because I read that for 1-2 mile distances, this was all you needed. It is! Half the weight of any gas or electric scooter.

I've had the KnowPed for about a year, and also got a Xootr Mg last month, after reading that the Xootr "goes 3-4 times as far on a flat surface, with the same number of kicks". That may be, but as I discovered, most people don't ride on a perfectly smooth, flat surface, but on streets and sidewalks, and there, the Xootr's better glide makes little difference. The Xootr's lower deck helps kicking a little, but over a 1-2 mile loop, the overall effort is the same. Except for sections where a lot of braking is needed, and there, the KnowPed is less effort thanks to its better brakes. If you're going to be riding 5+ miles over smooth sidewalk, the Xootr will save you some effort.

The Xootr deck flexes side-to-side when you change feet, but this is more a matter of hinge design, than of build quality. The flex doesn't really affect ride quality, it just takes a little getting used to. Xootr is also noisier, and has a slightly harsher ride, but neither is worth worrying about. The Xootr may technically be lighter, but the KnowPed is more rigid and feels lighter. The Xootr's T bar extends higher above the deck than the KnowPed's, however this isn't necessary, even for very tall people (I'm 6'5"), unless they're going to be riding 5+ miles. The ability to set a lower hieght is an advantage to anyone less than 5' tall. Xootr claims their backwards oriented front wheel fork is more stable than competing design, which is true, but their narrow wheel is more likely to jam in a crack, so its a wash. Both scooters require you keep two hands on the T bar at all times, so make sure you have a backpack to carry supplies. I clip my dog's leash to my belt when taking him for a trot. (Jan 2009 update: Safety is excellent in my opinion: The Xootr can spill when the wheel jams in a sidewalk crack. The KnowPed can spill if you take one hand off the T bar. Total spills in 3 years: 2 for Xootr, 2 for KnowPed. Embarrassing, but kind of exhilarating, too, for the few moments of weightlessness. Don't worry, have fun!)

Two Xootr's attractions are its sophisticated looks, and narrower deck. If I were wearing a suit, I'd rather be riding the Xootr. The Xootr's shorter adjusting T bar is also good for use by children. (A GrowPed also serves here). The KnowPed's deck is a little too wide for my taste, but not enough for me to do anything about it. If that really bothers someone with carpentry skills, they could take a router to the wooden deck.

Both are fine scooters, but overall I like the KnowPed better than the Xootr, even if it were the same price as the Xootr, and not half the cost. Simpler, to use, quicker to fold, and super reliable. Fantastic brakes compared to the Xootr, and easier to control. The rear brake is much more effective and easier to use than the Xootr's, because its easier to step on. The KnowPed is quieter, and looks great. Unless you like the Xootr's appearance and styling better, I'd recommend the KnowPed to anyone looking for a kick scooter.

UPDATE: April 2008. Re: Xootr noise- there is a simple way to quiet the fender rattle: piece of sponge between the brake and fender. Also I am really getting used to the much taller T bar on the Xootr. It lets me stand completely upright. Have to recommend the Xootr for riders over, say, 6'1" who are going on 5+ mile rides. Also, the KnowPed is no longer that much cheaper than the Xootr. Still, the KnowPed is an excellent scooter: simple, tough and reliable.

UPDATE: Jan 2009. Folding: both scooters fold, but the Xootr is more compact when folded and has a great shoulder strap available. Pop it on your shoulder and both hands are free. My favorite rides are anywhere along Manhattan's riverside Greenways, anywhere that's super crowded like China Town. Scooters are a great way to see a crowded flat city like NYC. Even checked mine in on the airplane so I could scoot around Austin during a business trip.

I purchased a remote truck for my grandson for Christmas. A battery charger
popped up and asked if I wanted that to charge the battery. I purchased
it and we found out it did not even go with the battery in the truck.
